Dear Gramps

I beg to differ on the old fallacy that is being spread in our church, that ALL our words and actions are preceeded by thougts. A man can be conditioned or can condition him or herself to say or do things without thinking first. Saying "amen" when the speaker at church finishes the talk is one example. Other examples are soldiers or martial artists. They are conditioned to act without reflexion, which would cost them precious time and possibly life. Actually in my experience we do a lot of things without premeditation. Signalling we're going to turn when driving, picking up the phone, when it rings, walk up the stairs to our home, the examples are innumerable. How did I gain this knowledge? I gave it some thought instead of just repeating something I heard someone say and which is true only in certain cases :-).
I love your column and the valuable advice you give to members with questions.

Love,
