In reply to will7370. Actually this is a very simplistic view of that scripture. The adversary will do 9 good to do one bad. If you have gone to a psychic rather than gotten on your knees then that is the first step in walking away from the Lord and the gospel. Many a false prophet can lead you toward good with an intent toward bad. In the end anyone proclaiming to have abilities to foretell another's future should be seen with distrust and avoided. You can only receive prophecy for yourself or that which you have domain over. IE family....a ward if you are a Bishop of that ward. Everything else is bunk. As of late we have seen many in the church that claim to lead to good with dreams and NDE but have lead people to energy healings and other things that may seem positive but eventually lead members away. Just stay away.

The directions given by the Lord are crystal clear in this regard:

“…every thing which inviteth to do good, and to persuade to believe in Christ, is sent forth by the power and gift of Christ; wherefore ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of God.

But whatsoever thing persuadeth men to do evil, and believe not in Christ, and deny him, and serve not God, then ye may know with a perfect knowledge it is of the devil…” Moroni 7:16-17

So all we have to do is ask ourselves a couple of questions. Does what the psychic says: A) invite to do good?, and B) persuade to believe in Christ? If so, then we can know perfectly that it is of God. BUT, if it A) persuades to do evil, and B) believe not in Christ and deny him, then we can know perfectly that it is of the devil.

In reply to Concerned. No, but I can point you to the Bible, the Book of Mormon, the D&C, the Pearl of Great Price, and countless testimonies of past and current prophets...then you can hit your knees and ask the Lord to reveal the truth to you...

Since psychics have been investigated by “objective scientific methods” and never found “any shred of [positive] evidence” can you point me in the direction of the scientific studies that have been done on faith and prayer?

The scriptures are very clear that psychics and other similar mediums are to be avoided at all costs. As Gramps said, if they ARE getting info from the spirit world, it is not through any spirits who follow Heavenly Father and in such cases we should be very afraid. Remember, Satan and his fellow fallen spirits are all around us and watch us closely, so it is very easy for them to pass than information on to a supposed psychic or spiritual medium.

An honest question here…so this couldn’t be one of the many ‘Gifts of the Spirit’ that individuals could have? While I think there are many frauds, there are many that I have to wonder about. Doing it to get gain and all that I’m sure is not something that the Lord would approve of and thus, I’m not sure the ‘gift’ would continue if used in that way but I know of a few that quietly go about their lives with this ‘ability’. Hard to say without ‘proof’ but I’m just not sure we can discount all. But that’s just me.
