Dear Gramps,

I’ve been inactive for many years and its now that im coming back. Since then i have committed countless numbers of sins and some of which i cant even remember. How will God judge me for the sins i forgot i committed and how do i go about repenting for the many sins i have?

Mrs. T

Dear Mrs. T,

Congratulations on your return to activity.  The most important thing is for you to visit with your Bishop, he is there to help you.  It is his calling to be a “common judge in Israel”.  As you strengthen your testimony, return to activity, the Lord’s spirit will help you remember all that you need to repent of.  The Bishop will help and when you confess to him of your past, it will help give you the strength to continue in the repentant process.

As we read of Christ, we need to realize that He is our Savior and Redeemer.  He is our advocate with the Father and He will do everything within His power to help us repent of our sins and return to the fold.  Too many leaders of other churches cast Him other than what He is, a loving, helpful and caring Savior.

I would encourage you to reread the Book of Mormon and take the counsel given in Moroni 10:  3 Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.  4 And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Christ, if these things are not true; and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.  5 And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

As we strengthen our testimony and attend Sacrament meeting, the spirit will bear witness to us of the truthfulness of the Gospel and the things we need to accomplish.
