Does God make mistakes??

Twan

Dear Twan,

We read in Matthew 5:48  “Be ye perfect, even as your Father which is in Heaven is perfect.”  Also in 3 Nephi 12: 48, Jesus commands the Nephites, “Therefore I would that ye should be perfect even as I, or your Father who is in heaven is perfect.”

In Alma 42:15 he tells us “And now, the plan of mercy could not be brought about except an atonement should be made; therefore God himself atoneth for the sins of the world, to bring about the plan of mercy, to appease the demands of justice, that God might be a perfect, just God, and merciful God also.”

Both God and Jesus are perfect.  God is all knowing,  all powerful and omnipresence.  With these attributes, God does not make mistakes otherwise he would cease to be God.  If he were anything but perfect, could we exercise faith in him?  I don’t think it would be possible.

Sometimes it is difficult to accept the way things happen and are often prone to blame God for it, but he allows us to make mistakes as we have our free agency as does each individual.
