Question

Gramps,

Is organ and blood donating in a way acting like God?  Do you think it is right to donate organs or blood?

Shaunae

Answer

Shaunae,

I’ve marveled at the levels our medical knowledge have reached. I’ve also marveled at how much more we’ve yet to learn about our bodies. I think God is very encouraged by all the good we can do with our medical experience. Giving of ourselves to help others has always been a part of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Only in the last few years has organ donation been even viable, let alone possible. I think God sees it as a good thing to allow trained experts to make use of parts of our bodies if they can. Stories of friends donating kidneys to loved ones, and even strangers tend to fill my heart with joy for the display of love that they are.

I don’t think it’s ‘acting like god’ as most people would interpret that phrase, but I do think it is a godlike way to act, and that would be in a selfless, unconditionally loving manner.
