Question

Dear Gramps,

According to you, is it allowed to pray to our Heavenly Mother? Can we talk to her as we talk to our Heavenly Father? Thank you in advance for any help you may provide.

Ric

Answer

Dear Ric,

We need to be very careful when we try to fill in the blanks in our understanding of doctrine. The existence of Heavenly Mother has been deduced by taking what we understand of the plan of salvation and extrapolating her existence. She has not be revealed to us, at least not to the extent where we can safety change one of the foundational pillars of the gospel. Which is what you would be doing if you pray to her.

Prayer is a fundamental aspect of the gospel. Its importance has been repeatedly stated and examples given. It is clear that we are to pray to the Father in the name of Christ. This is the pattern, the way, the path for prayer that we have been given.

Should you choose to pray to Heavenly Mother, do realize that you are putting your own wisdom and knowledge ahead of God’s and that rarely ends well.
