Hi Gramps,

Gramps, I was hoping you would explain your understanding of D&C 133:26-35. Such as in verse 26, “They who are in the north countries,” (where are the north countries). And “They shall smite the rocks and ice shall flow down at their presence.” Could you give me your understanding of verses 26-35.

I look forward to your reply.

Brother Kamps

Dear Brother Kamps,

In the first place we must recognize that the lost ten tribes are indeed lost. If we could identify which north countries were referred to, they would very likely not be lost. Concerning the second quote, we have no reason to believe that the two phrases have a cause and effect relationship. “They shall strike the rocks” could refer to any mining or construction operation, such as a highway being cast up out of the great deep. “The ice shall flow down at their presence” could refer to their having some means of heat, or it could refer to a natural occurrence, such as the movement of a glacier caused by an earthquake that would occur in their presence. The true meaning and intent of those obscure scriptures will be made clear as they occur.
