Many years ago, missionaries were given the priesthood office of “seventy”. Ward and Stake Missionaries were also called as “seventy”. Do we know any more of the seventy called by Christ in Luke 10:1 and did they hold the Melchizedek priesthood.

Alex

Dear Alex,

The “Seventy” are those who hold the office of “Seventy” in the Priesthood.

Doctrine & Covenants 107:25

25 The Seventy are also called to preach the gospel, and to be especial witnesses unto the Gentiles and in all the world—thus differing from other officers in the church in the duties of their calling.

Doctrine & Covenants 107:97

97 And these seventy are to be traveling ministers, unto the Gentiles first and also unto the Jews.

Many years ago, missionaries were given the priesthood office of “seventy”. Ward and Stake Missionaries were also called as “seventy”.

Today, that priesthood office resides with the General Authorities of the Church, particularly in the quorums of Seventy. So yes, those who were called as “seventy” also had the Melchizedek Priesthood.

During Christ’ time, I am 100% sure they held the Priesthood. What we don’t know is who they were.
