Question

We are taught that there are other worlds created and that there was an Adam and an Eve on each. Did each world have their “own” Adam and Eve or different ones and were there names Adam and Eve? And if they were different how does the lineages work? Thank you.

Answer

Dear Jackie,

In the first place, the number of worlds organized and formed by the Savior under the direction of the Father is truly limitless-without end. Enoch, on one occasion, in speaking with the Lord, had this to say,

And were it possible that man could number the particles of the earth, yea, millions of earths like this, it would not be a beginning to the number of thy creations; and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there, and thy bosom is there; and also thou art just; thou art merciful and kind forever. (Moses 7:30)

Imagine!! Of how many particles is the earth composed? In one bucket of sand there are about two million particles. Now think for a minute how many grains of sand there would there be on all the sea shores of all the oceans in the world. Now think that this is just a line on the surface of the earth!! So, of how many particles would the earth be composed? And then he says, and thy curtains are stretched out still; and yet thou art there. His creations are truly limitless.

Now many of these worlds are inhabited by the mortal children of our Father in Heaven in a like manner to this earth on which we dwell? And our marvelous, incomprehensible Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, the great Jehovah, is the Savior and Redeemer of all of them!! The great atoning sacrifice that He underwent while in mortality on this wicked earth was sufficient in its scope to pay the price of sin for all of our Father’s children, regardless of which earth they worked out their mortal probation. We learn from the Doctrine and Covenants, section 76 that

And now, after the many testimonies which have been given of him, this is the testimony, last of all which we give of him: That he lives!

For we saw him, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father–

That by him, and through him, and of him, the worlds are and were created, and the inhabitants thereof are begotten sons and daughters unto God. (D&C 76:22-24)

In the preface to Section 76, referring to verses 22 to 24, we read the following-

Inhabitants of many worlds are begotten sons and daughters unto God through the atonement of Jesus Christ.

Each world peopled by our Father’s children had to have the first progenitors of that world. The Adam and Eve that we know, who are our first ancestors, became the first mortals on this earth. They could not have gone from earth to earth, beginning the race on each one. Each world had its own “Adam” and “Eve;” and on each world they were given the same names as the first parents on this earth.

And worlds without number have I created; and I also created them for mine own purpose; and by the Son I created them, which is mine Only Begotten.

And the first man of all men have I called Adam, which is many.

But only an account of this earth, and the inhabitants thereof, give I unto you. For behold, there are many worlds that have passed away by the word of my power. And there are many that now stand, and innumerable are they unto man; but all things are numbered unto me, for they are mine and I know them. (Moses 1:33-35)

And Adam called his wife’s name Eve, because she was the mother of all living; for thus have I, the Lord God, called the first of all women, which are many. (Moses 4:26)
