Dear Gramps

I am 63 years old.  I have been a member of the Church since 1 Jan 1963, I was 17 at the time stationed in England with the USAF.  I have always believed in Jesus and the Church.  During the past couple of years I have read the scriptures front to back, read many church books and pro non-church books about the LDS Church.  I also have been reading a lot of books about Intelligent design and the scientific proof against Darwinism. Last November I woke up one morning and my testimony of the Church and Jesus was gone. I believe in a Creator but no longer believe in any religion.  I want to believe and again to have that peace in my life.  Please give me any suggestions as how I can do that again? I really need you help as I have an empty feeling in my soul.  I believe that this Creator doesn’t care about his creation.

Thank You.
George
Dear George,

If one has temporarily lost his testimony of the Gospel of Jesus Christ or feels it is not as strong as it once was, he needs to follow the same steps to restore it that was used to obtain it in the first place.  You need to do as Moroni counsels us in the Book of Mormon.  Moroni 10: 3-5

3. Behold, I would exhort you that when ye shall read these things, if it be wisdom in God that ye should read them, that ye would remember how merciful the Lord hath been unto the children of men, from the creation of Adam even down until the time that ye shall receive these things, and ponder it in your hearts.

4. And when ye shall receive these things, I would exhort you that ye would ask God, the Eternal Father, in the name of Chrst, if these things are not true:  and if ye shall ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ, he will manifest the truth of it unto you, by the power of the Holy Ghost.

5. And by the power of the Holy Ghost ye may know the truth of all things.

The Lord has made each of us a significant promise here, but we need to remember to “ask with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ” and then the truth will be manifested to us by the Holy Ghost.  It is through this procedure that we can find the truth in all things through the power of the Holy Ghost.

If you would like assistance in doing this I would recommend you contact your Bishop or the missionaries and I am sure they will be of great help in outlining a study guide for you.  They will pray with you and for you as you work to  regain your testimony.

May the Lord’s spirit be with you.
