Question

Gramps,

Recently I read a book called;  “A Divine Revelation of Hell” by Mary K. Baxter.  While reading the book I was filled with the spirit.  It gave me the impression the book was real.  In the book it says hell is forever.

My question is; do you believe hell is forever and if not why?

Answer

Darren,

Thank you for taking the time to ask this question. I will provide you with verses of scripture which should answer your question.

Doctrine and Covenants 19:11-12

“Eternal punishment is God’s punishment.” “Endless punishment is God’s punishment.”

Alma 42:16

“Now, repentance could not come unto men except there were a punishment, which also was eternal as the life of the soul should be, affixed opposite to the plan of happiness, which was as eternal also as the life of the soul.”

Jacob 7:18

“And he spake plainly unto them, that he had been deceived by the power of the devil. And he spake of hell, and of eternity, and of eternal punishment.”

Doctrine and Covenants 76:44

“Wherefore, he saves all except them—they shall go away into everlasting punishment, which is endless punishment, which is eternal punishment.”
