Question

Gramps,

How is a Mission President called? Do they fill out mission papers like a young missionary so it’s known they are OK with the call or does their name just come up? Thank you,

Crystal

Answer

Dear Crystal,

I wouldn’t say that the names of prospective mission presidents in the Mormon Church “just come up,” but neither do they follow the same protocol as do young missionaries who are recommended and interviewed by their bishops.

However, in the last analysis, both young missionaries and mission presidents are called by the Lord, Jesus Christ, who inspires the appropriate priesthood authorities to make the recommendations that in these cases are reviewed and approved by the First Presidency of the Church.
