Dear Gramps,

Since one of the purposes of our coming to earth is to be tested to see whether we will choose right or wrong how will those who live during the millenium be tested if Satan is bound and there is no temptation to test them?

Kristen, from California

Dear Kristen,

Those born during the millennium will live in a blessed state, free from the temptations of Satan. However, each person will retain his or her free agency and may choose what they will do. Even without the temptings of Satan, a person may decide to do that which is contrary to the will of our Father in Heaven. As a matter of fact, near the end of the thousand years, men will again begin to deny that there is a God. At that time Satan will be released and will be permitted to tempt those who have been born during the millennium, and then the end will come. The related scriptures are listed below:

And when the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison (Revelation 20:7).

And again, verily, verily, I say unto you that when the thousand years are ended, and men again begin to deny their God, then will I spare the earth but for a little season (D&C 29:22 ).

For Satan shall be bound, and when he is loosed again he shall only reign for a little season, and then cometh the end of the earth (D&C 43:31).
