Dear Gramps,
OK, I lied to my mom really badly. I went to a high school dance. I told her that I wasn’t going and told her that my dad wasn’t home so I could cover up spending the night with my friends. She figured out and I don’t know how to apologize or how to make it up. I need some advise.
Jenny

Dear Jenny,
Apologizing is easy, making it up is hard. But there is one way that you could possibly accomplish it. Go to your mother and sincerely confess what you have done; leave nothing out. Then tell her that you will never, ever lie to her again, that she may have full confidence that whatever you tell her will be the absolute truth. If you can live up to that statement you will have made it up to her.
