Question

Dear Gramps,

In the Maori culture here in New Zealand, children are sometimes born into a family, then passed to another family to rear. My question is in regard to sealings for these children. If the child dies without being officially adopted into the second family, who should the child be sealed to, the birth parents or the family which reared them?

Audrey

Answer

Dear Audrey,

It is my understanding that before children can be sealed to other than their birth parents they must be officially adopted.
