Gramps,
Today my teacher told my class that in the early church, Mormons believed that blacks go straight to hell. I know this is not true, but I don’t have any evidence of proof to back it up. Can you explain why that’s not true and how non-Mormons get that presumption?
Kristin, from Hudson, North Carolina

Dear Kristin,
Before 1978 the Blacks were precluded from holding the priesthood, but there were many members of the Mormon Church in the early days of the Church who were black. In fact some of the black members even walked across the plains when the Mormon Church was expelled from the United States in 1847. If the Mormon Church ever believed the trash that your teacher puts out, there would have been no reason for any Black person to have ever become a member of the Mormon Church. When any person promotes these knowingly false and damaging concepts you may know, by that fact, that their inspiration for such remarks comes directly from Satan.
