Question

Gramps,

Why is general knowledge of The Father and His role not widely known? Is it Satan’s objective to keep people from revealed knowledge of Him? The main focus in the Christian world is Jesus Christ – which is not bad but without knowing the Father can one truly be saved or exalted? Can you expand on this?

Collin

Answer

Dear Collin,

Of course, a true knowledge of God is absolutely essential to man’s eternal salvation. we read in John 17:3

And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.

But how is a knowledge of God acquired? Knowledge of the things of the earth is acquired by examination and experimentation, but knowledge of the things of eternity is beyond the ken of the limited rules and procedures of the scientific method, and far beyond the logic of philosophy. There is only one way that any knowledge of the things of eternity can be acquired, and that is by the testimony of an unimpeachable witness. The only unimpeachable witness that I know of is the Holy Spirit. In fact, one of the chief functions of the Holy Spirit is to testify of the Father and of the Son. And from the scriptures we learn that there is no other way to know the things of God—

For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, except he has the Spirit of God (JST 1 Cor 2:11).

The Spirit of Christ is that which enlightens all the world with a sense of that which is right or wrong. It is often called the conscience, and it is a universal gift, and can only be lost by turning oneself over to sin. However, knowledge from the Holy Spirit is reserved for those who commit themselves to the Savior by repenting of all their sins and being baptized for their remission by one having the authority from God to do so. Then, such initiates into the kingdom of God on the earth receive by the laying of hands of those with the requisite priesthood authority the Gift of the Holy Ghost–the Holy Ghost being the revelator of the truths that comes from God.

So the sectarian world does not have a true knowledge of God because they have not the gift of the Holy Ghost.
