Gramps,
In administering the sacrament, why is the bread broken during the singing of the sacramental hymn rather than being prepared prior to the singing of the hymn?
Charlene, Titusville, Florida

Dear, Charlene,
The hymn is sung during the breaking of the bread in order to give the congregation something to do of a spiritual nature while the bread is being broken. The sacrament hymns are chosen to be reflective of the Savior and of his great atoning sacrifice. Thus the singing of the hymn is an aid in preparing the people to be in tune with the Spirit of the Holy Ghost that they may be in a position to renew their baptismal covenants with the Lord as they partake of the sacrament.
