Question

Gramps,

Does our current prophet communicate with John and the Three Nephites?

Chad

Answer

Chad,

In 3 Nephi 28: 25-31 we are informed that the three Nephites are able to pray in the name of Jesus and reveal themselves unto who they may, or unto who they feel would satisfy God’s will and pleasure. We are also informed that Mormon and Moroni were able to be ministered unto by them nearly 400 years later.

In this scripture we are informed that they will be doing work among the Jews, Gentiles, and the scattered tribes of Israel and people will know them not. We also understand that great and marvelous works will be brought about by them in the last days.

In my opinion, I don’t see any reason why John or the three Nephites haven’t yet visited with our current prophet President Thomas S. Monson. We know John visited Joseph, with a purpose, as such, I see no reason why President Monson wouldn’t have the opportunity to see them as well and to be ministered unto by them. However, we have no official record specifying that these four individuals are speaking with President Monson, and if they were I don’t see him publicly making any statement due to the sacred nature of these visits, unless commanded otherwise as with Joseph Smith and the restoration of the Melchizedek Priesthood.
