Question
Gramps,
You recently answered a question from an individual wondering if we got to choose our trials in mortality. Your answer seemed appropriate but my expansion on that issue is since with Heavenly Father ‘all things are present’ were we not shown at least a portion of what we would experience in mortality. My Patriarachal Blessing indicates I was ‘called’ to certain responsibilities here on earth.

Answer
Brenda,
Certainly our Heavenly Father is omniscient, His children – less so. A patriarchal blessing can open a person’s eyes to callings and responsibilities she agreed to before she was born. It can also reveal challenges particular to an individual in magnifying those callings. I am still uncertain as to how much was known before we were born. It sounds like you have been told that you were informed of and agreed to certain responsibilities. I don’t know that that principle can be generalized to apply to include your trials; nor do I think the principle could be generalized even further to apply to everyone, universally, accepting given trials. I look forward to the day when the veil is drawn back and I am restored to my former knowledge. If it is revealed that I knew every aspect of my life and simply had to live it out, then I will rejoice in that knowledge and the generosity of God. If it is revealed otherwise, then I will still rejoice in that knowledge and the generosity of God.
