Question
Gramps,
Le’s say that there was a member of the Mormon Church and she came to church and did all the right things. Then her ward was divided, changing the boundaries. The person now does not go to the ward she is supposed to and she does not attend church very often any more. Do you think she should go to her own ward or should she stay with us? Thanks.
Erika
Answer
Dear Erika,
You seem to have the right idea. Your friend should certainly be encouraged to go to her own Ward. If she comes to your ward she is only a visitor. In her Ward, she will have the bishop to look after her, the home teachers to look after her, and the visiting teachers to look after her, and may have the opportunity to provide service to others by being called to a position in one of the auxiliaries organizations of her Ward.
It is sometimes hard for people to meet new people and to change from a comfortable social position. Perhaps you could help her by attending her new Ward with her on occasion, and by introducing her to several of the members who could extend the hand of fellowship and friendship. If you are acquainted in her new Ward, perhaps there is someone there with whom you might talk, suggesting that special attention be given to your friend until she feels more comfortable in her new environment.
