Gramps,

I have a friend in my business who thinks that it is ludicrous that we can grow to become like our Father in Heaven and attain to the state of Godhood as He is now if we are faithful. He wants me to prove it to him with the Bible. I quote him Psalm 82:6, and give him Wilford Woodruff’s famous statement. He sends me back Isaiah 46:9 and Isaiah 45: 21-22, and 1st Corinthians 8:5-6.

Any thoughts or suggestions? If you have time. Thanks,

Lon Harkey, from Flagstaff, Arizona

Dear Lon,

It is a completely useless exercise to enter into a debate with someone over such an issue. He does not believe our view of Deity and no amount of scriptural evidence will convince him, as you have already demonstrated. You might invite him to ask the Lord if the scriptures that you quote to him are true, and if indeed God is an exalted man. If he is a sincere person and would appeal to the Lord without prejudice the truth would be revealed to him by the power of the Holy Ghost, and there would then be no problem.
