Gramps,

How do I overcome my fear of going to outer darkness? Any advice?

Answer

Anonymous,

That is an intriguing question that would be difficult for me to answer as I do not know who you are, the choices you have made, and why you are personally asking this question. The same question might mean something else for a different person depending on their choices and the reason why they are asking. In that light, I think it best to search the scriptures I have personally come to love, and by which I will offer no interpretation as it is my prayer that the Spirit of the Lord will bless you with the personal understanding you require at this time.

The first scripture is Jacob 4:6,

“Wherefore, we search the prophets, and we have many revelations and the spirit of prophecy; and having all these witnesses we obtain a hope, and our faith becometh unshaken, insomuch that we truly can command in the name of Jesus and the very trees obey us, or the mountains, or the waves of the sea.”

What is the counsel? What is the condition? What is the blessing?

The second scripture is Mosiah 4:20,

“And behold, even at this time, ye have been calling on his name, and begging for a remission of your sins. And has he suffered that ye have begged in vain? Nay; he has poured out his Spirit upon you, and has caused that your hearts should be filled with joy, and has caused that your mouths should be stopped that ye could not find utterance, so exceedingly great was your joy.”

What is the counsel? What is the condition? What is the blessing?

The third scripture is Moses 6:60,

“For by the water ye keep the commandment; by the Spirit ye are justified, and by the blood ye are sanctified; Therefore it is given to abide in you; the record of heaven; the Comforter; the peaceable things of immortal glory; the truth of all things; that which quickeneth all things, which maketh alive all things; that which knoweth all things, and hath all power according to wisdom, mercy, truth, justice, and judgment.”

What is the counsel? What are the given conditions? What is the blessing? Who is the Comforter? Where does the Comforter dwell? If we have his companionship, we are worthy of it, where then would we be?

The fourth scripture is Moroni 8:26,

“And the remission of sins bringeth meekness, and lowliness of heart; and because of meekness and lowliness of heart cometh the visitation of the Holy Ghost, which Comforter filleth with hope and perfect love, which love endureth by diligence unto prayer, until the end shall come, when all the saints shall dwell with God.”

What is the counsel? What is the condition? What is the blessing?

The fifth scripture is Doctrine and Covenants 58:43,

“By this ye may know if a man repenteth of his sins—behold, he will confess them and forsake them.”

What is the counsel? What is the condition? What is the blessing?

The sixth scripture is Matthew 12:31, “Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men.”

What is the counsel? What can be forgiven?

With all that we have  final scripture that I love Ether 12:4,

“Wherefore, whoso believeth in God might with surety hope for a better world, yea, even a place at the right hand of God, which hope cometh of faith, maketh an anchor to the souls of men, which would make them sure and steadfast, always abounding in good works, being led to glorify God.”

What is the counsel? What is the condition? What is the blessing?

As you search the scriptures, pray with faith and hope, you will come to know the answer for yourself by the power of the Holy Ghost. The Lord bless you.
