Question

Hello Gramps,

My husband was married and sealed to his ex wife for 10 years.  They got divorced as she cheated on him.  She died before my husband could cancel their sealing, most likely from suicide.   He and I are not sealed yet but we are planing on getting sealed.  Is their sealing still valid? as she was unfaithful and kill her self, if so, can my husband cancel it? or is she gonna be his wife as well in the eternal life?

Thanks in advance.

Joselyn

Answer

Joselyn,

I’d like to direct you to a previously answered question that should answer yours.

Will a temple divorce invalidate the sealing of our children?

President Dallin H. Oaks also addressed this subject at our last General Conference:

My dear brothers and sisters, a letter I received some time ago introduces the subject of my talk. The writer was contemplating a temple marriage to a man whose eternal companion had died. She would be a second wife. She asked this question: would she be able to have her own house in the next life, or would she have to live with her husband and his first wife? I just told her to trust the Lord.  Trust in the Lord
