Gramps ,

I have heard many conflicting stories, but have yet to receive any documentation from the QOTTA on the subject of the state of rightousness of the decendants of Cain while in the Pre-existance.

I am of mixed race (Black/White) and my wife is Black. My children, I’m sure will ask the same question to me, and I want to give them an honest answer. Can you help.

Rowland, from Michigan

Dear Rowland,

I am not acquainted with any scripture or the writing of any of the Brethren that makes a judgment on the degree of righteous of the pre-mortal spirits of the descendents of Cain. We do know that the descendents of Cain, whatever their condition in the pre-mortal spirit world, were denied the priesthood down through the ages until the great revelation given to President Spencer W. Kimball that has now become part of our scripture.

Incidentally, the curse that was inherited by the descendents of Cain was not a black skin, but their being denied the priesthood. The black skin that they were given was actually a blessing. It was given to protect them against those that would try to take revenge on them for the sin of their progenitor.

And the LORD said unto him, Therefore whosoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold. And the LORD set a mark upon Cain, lest any finding him should kill him (Genesis 4:15).
