Question

Hi gramps!

When Lucifer says he is only doing that which he’s seen done in other worlds, what exactly is he referring to? Tempting the children of god? And he couldn’t have known when he tempted Eve in the Garden of Eden that he was fulfilling part of Heavenly Father’s plan or he wouldn’t of done it right? I know this is a ridiculous thought as well but one could theoretically say that in order for Heavenly Father’s plan to work there had to be someone to fulfill the calling to tempt the children of God. We should say, well good job there brother in making this world a terrible enough place so we can test ourselves and overcome tribulation.  I’m glad I didn’t have that dirty job! I’m not sure if I’m making any sense! Sorry!

Answer

Candice,

Adam and Eve eating fruit MormonSatan tempted Adam and Eve to eat the forbidden fruit because “he knew not the mind of God” (Moses 4:6). He wasn’t playing along with our Heavenly Father’s plan. Rather than feeling any gratitude towards the master tempter, we should thank our Heavenly Father for creating a plan that provides a Redeemer should we succumb to temptation.
