Question

Gramps,

I’m LDS.  I’m very happy to be and so is my husband.  We have been married for 32 years and our  marriage is sealed but lately we have been very sick  I lost my legs.  I can not walk anymore and my husband has a bad problem with his back.   He suffers lots of pain so we can’t go to church anymore.  When we go I start to cry in church from pain.  I miss going to church on Sunday but we still pray and believe.  Now will our Father in Heaven be angry at us?  Thank you for reading my complaint.

Marie

Answer

Marie,

The Lord doesn’t punish us for things we can not do. He judges us by our desires and our willingness.

If you wish and try to go to church but your medical condition will not allow it, then you are not sinning before the Lord.

Now one of the things you can do is call up the bishop and see if some kind of accommodation can be arranged to help you get and stay at church. That may or may not be possible depending on the your medical condition and the resources of the ward, at the very least you can request that they bring the sacrament to you if you can’t attend.
