Question

What is meant by “to obtain the Pearl of Great Price?”

Thank you.

Jerry

Answer

Dear Jerry,

The parable of the Pearl of Great Price is found in Matthew 13:45-46:

45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls:

46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

In this Parable, Jesus is trying to teach the importance of seeking the things that lead one back to heaven. These ‘pearls’ can be faith in Christ, repentance, baptism, or just about anything else gospel related that we don’t currently have, or aren’t doing very well on. We should be seeking that which we lack, and once we find it, do everything we can to obtain it. For the things of heaven are more valuable than any earthly possession.
