Were ther 2 trees in the Garden of Eden? Were they both forbiden. I always thought there was one forbiden? Reading in Alma 12:21-28 Thank you!

Norma, of the many trees in the Garden of Eden, two were significant. Eating the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil would serve as an exit from the garden. They were expressly forbidden from eating that fruit, but were still left to choose for themselves. The tree of life was also placed in the garden. When Adam and Eve transgressed the commandment of God, cherubim (angels) and a flaming sword were placed to guard the way of the tree of life, to prevent the couple from eating the blessed fruit and living forever in their sin. There was no commandment against eating the fruit of the tree of life while they were in the garden. And what’s more (getting to the verses you reference), there is still no command against eating the fruit of that tree.
Alma testified of the reality of the judgment and resurrection. Antionah countered his testimony by pointing out the guardians around the tree of life, so clearly Adam and Eve (and we) would not again rise from the dead. But Alma corrects him. The angels are there to prevent Adam and Eve (and us) from living forever in their sins. So “this life became a probationary state; a time to prepare to meet God; a time to prepare for that endless state” which follows eating that fruit.
