Question
Hi Gramps,
Like many LDS women, I struggle with the thought of plural marriage in the afterlife. Our new Prophet, President Nelson has two temple sealings, along with President Oaks. We don’t know much about our Heavenly Mother. My question is do you think Heavenly Father lives in a plural marriage if he allows men to be sealed to more than one woman?
Sarah
Answer
Dear Sarah,
In today’s political and ideological environment, it would be rather difficult to provide and answer that both, made you feel secured and at peace, especially because we have yet to receive further light and knowledge beyond what we have already been given.
My question to you is this… IF Heavenly Father has more than one wife, will you love him any less? Or, will HE love you any less?
I tend to ponder on what I already know and sometimes I catch myself thinking that I really don’t know much, compared to the greatness and vastness of what actually is out there. So, I end each day, thank God for giving me what I know and allowing me to learn a little more each day. I trust that if He has more than one wife, there is a specific and reasonable explanation as to why that is and that all involved have surpassed my limited understanding and embraced it with the type of love, seldom found on this earthly sphere.
With much Love,
Gramps
Question
Gramps,
So, Lehi’s sons got wives from Ishmael’s daughters. How about Lehi’s daughters? Did they get husbands?
Bruce
Answer
Dear Bruce,
There are details that give us clues to questions such as yours.
In 2 Nephi 4:10 we read:
“And it came to pass that when my father had made an end of speaking unto them, behold, he spake unto the sons of Ishmael, yea, and even all his household.”
I hope this clears your question and showcases that we ALL have a chance for love!
