Subject: Prophets & Heavenly Father
Message: Please can you tell me if any other prophet besides Joseph Smith has seen God the Father face to face, like he did.
Thanks so much.
Jenny
Dear Jenny,
If you read in the Bible Dictionary under God, a very good explanation is given that defines God the Father and his Son Jesus Christ. It indicates that “God revealed himself to Adam and has repeatedly made himself known by revelation to chosen patriachs and prophets since that time”. Later in the same paragraph it states that “God the Father and his Son have been manifested by voice, sight, or otherwiese at various times, as at the baptism of Jeus, the Transfiguration, to Stephen and to the Nephites.
Joseph Smith saw God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ, as you stated, face to face. It is through this revelation that we know of the attributes of the Godhead and that we are created in His image. Also we gained the knowledge that he lives and he will answer our prayers as he did the boy Joseph.
Joseph Smith and Sidney Rigdon were given the revelation that is recorded in Doctrine and Covenants section 76, verses 22 and 23, which state: “And now, after the many testimonies which have been givenof him, this is thetestimony, last of all, which we give of him: That he lives! For we saw hime, even on the right hand of God; and we heard the voice bearing record that he is the Only Begotten of the Father.”
I am not aware of any other modern day prophet that has indicated that he has seen God the Father.
