We are in a bad financial situation. Our bills add up to exactly what we make and for food. If we tithe we cant buy food. We can’t sell our house because we are upside down 80,000 dollars. Our bishop we contacted and he is coming over in a couple weeks to discuss this. We are charging groceries to buy food. Will the church want us to walk from our home and forclose in order to tithe. We have gone over the bills and there is very little room to cut back. This is effecting my testimony because I am scared and I dont want to leave my home I love which is very modest. Everything has skyrocketed in price so its not like we over spent.
Thanks
Chris

Dear Chris,
Paying tithing is not about the money. (I know that sounds a bit absurd but stay with me). Paying tithing is about developing faith.
If you believe that God is almighty then you have to understand that He doesn’t need your money. He could fund His church and His plans many other ways. He has chosen tithing because it helps to teach us to have faith. It requires sacrifice and in cases like yours it requires us to step into the dark with only His promise to be there to sustain us. This is hard and this is scary. This is also part of our test to see if we will do all things the Lord commands us.
Talk to your bishop as he understands this, and has a better understanding of your situation then I can. Listen to his council. Pray to the Lord and ask for His help in developing your faith so that it can be strong enough. Then put the Lord to the test and exercise your faith in him.
