Dear Gramps,

I have an old friend who is staying with me as a paying houseguest until he can get another job and get a place of his own. If he is taking the discussions and wishes to be baptized why can’t he do so while paying to stay at my house? He is no more than any other friend or person I might choose to help out in a time of need. We are only friends no more at all than that!!

Judy

Dear Judy,

Not knowing all of the circumstances, I am not in a position to give an opinion whether he should be baptized or not.

Something we need to keep in mind is the counsel we have received from all of our Church leaders, telling us that we should avoid even the mere appearance of evil.  This is very sound advise as I am sure you will agree.
