Question

Gramps,

Please I want to find out why we Re-dedicate Temples if it has already been dedicated for Sacred Purposes? Thank you!

Joshua

Answer

Joshua,

Temple re-dedication usually only occurs after some major change.  One of the more common events would be if it were being worked on for renovation.  During that time, unendowed individuals (including non-members) may be part of the crews working on the temple.  When that happens, the temple’s dedicated status is discontinued or nullified.  After the renovation is complete, a re-dedication is required.

But it is my understanding that if it were done by an entire crew of individuals who were endowed (with temple recommends) then the dedicated status could continue.  And no re-dedication would be required.

Another condition of re-dedication is that sometimes additional portions of the building are added to the original.  That portion then changes the temple.  So, a re-dedication is required.
